The Society of Fire Protection Engineers was established in 1950 and incorporated as an independent organization in 1971. It is the professional society representing those practicing the field of fire protection engineering. The Society has over 5000 members globally and over 75 regional chapters.

ICC – International Code Council

University of Maryland – Fire Protection Engineering
In 1956, the Department of Fire Protection Engineering was established within the School of Engineering at the University of Maryland. A great and unique tradition had started.
To date we offer the only fully accredited undergraduate program and one of three graduate degree programs in the U.S. More than 1,100 graduates from the Department are now employed in industry, insurance companies, Federal, state or local government, military, and fire service.
